Hi, I'm Benny. I'm a sweet, affectionate boy who loves to PLAY! Fetch and tug-o-war are on the top of my to-do list each and every day.
I'm also a survivor. In the fall of 2017 I was seriously injured. I don't even remember what happened exactly. All I know is that I woke up and my pelvis was fractured in three places and my rear left leg was broken or dislocated or both. A couple weeks later an Animal Control Officer found me as a stray and saved my life by taking me to the shelter. I received immediate medical treatment and the search for a rescue began.
I came home to my foster family right before Thanksgiving. I love my three foster siblings. They play with me and snuggle with me too.
At this point, I've healed quite nicely and I'm ready to live life to the fullest. I'm looking for a family that wants to do the same. Is that you?

According to my x-rays I was injured sometime after August 1, 2017. I did not receive medical treatment. When I was picked up by the ACO in October the bones in my hips had started to re-knit and therefore any damage to my body would be percent. At this point I can't be 'fixed', but I can live a better quality of life free from pain. The vet recommended FHO surgery.

I am going in on Tuesday, December 12th for a surgery consultation. My foster mom says the doctor's and staff are going to take great care of me. We're going to start with a check-up and then x-rays. After we see how my hips have healed the doctor will determine the next best steps.
I am preparing myself for FHO surgery. You see my left leg is currently dislocated. So every time I bear weight on it or it moves it causes me pain. I am on pain medication to easy my pain, but if surgery will make me not hurt then I'm ready for it. My foster mom said FHO surgery is where they will remove the 'ball' off of my left rear leg femur and realign my leg in the hip socket. The surgery will cause my leg hang free, eliminate my constant pain and increase my mobility. Recovery is about six months, but many FHO surgery dogs display noticible improvement quickly. So I'm ready. I'm ready to live life pain free!

Oh my gosh, I hurt, but I'm also glad to be back home. Yesterday I had surgery and last night I spent at the hospital. I'm glad to be back home and snuggling with my foster family. I'm sleeping a lot! I don't really care about my incision site (which is good), but I definitely don't like it when they put this flex-cone on me to put me in my crate. I mean, I already feel bad enough, why make it worse! But...I have to admit, if left to my own devices I'd probably start checking out this big gash on my side. I know they just want to take care of me so I'm going to let them. I'm gonna snuggle up and be grateful for what I've got.

Sorry for not posting an update when I got home last night, but man I was wiped out so I just snuggled with my foster family. I spent the day with my friends at Brookville Road Animal Hospital. They were so nice and helped me feel better. The surgeon had to drain a pocket of blood that was in the soft tissue behind my stitches. Then I had laser therapy to help the healing. My foster mom has to do cold compresses for the next two days and then go to warm compresses after that.
Thanks again to everyone that has donated and please share my story to help Casa del Toro reach my goal. 100% of the donations CDT receives from this fundraising campaign goes directly to my vet bills. Not only did I undergo a major corrective surgery, but my foster parents have had to re-arrange their house to accommodate my recovery. Wow, the road to recovery is a long one. Three days ago I didn't feel good so we took a trip to the vet. Turns out I had a fever of 104 and a possible post surgery infection. I'm taking a lot of antibiotics and pain meds. More love, fluids and rest in my future!

Benny did awesome today at Pet People! He met lots of other dogs and wanted to play with them all. You can tell his leg isn't bothering him a bit anymore!
